Meet Ryane Staples, DMD Dr. Ryane Staples is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with advanced fellowship training in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. His expertise encompasses the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including dentoalveolar surgery, facial trauma, corrective jaw surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, anesthesia, and surgical and nonsurgical facial cosmetic procedures.Dr. Staples is committed to providing individualized care that balances patient safety, function, and natural-looking results. Education And ResidencyDr. Staples earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics, with a minor in Educational Studies, from Colgate University. After gaining several years of experience in the business world, he decided to pursue a career in healthcare and completed postbaccalaureate studies in biological sciences at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester. He graduated from the postbaccalaureate program with a 4.0 GPA and was recognized as a University Scholar and a member of the Dean's List with Highest Honors. Dr. Staples then attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. He completed an additional certificate focused on social determinants of health and healthcare disparities and graduated with a 4.3 GPA. He also scored within the top 2.5% nationally on the Comprehensive Basic Science Examination. Oral And Maxillofacial Surgery TrainingDr. Staples completed his four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency through the San Antonio Military Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. He was the program's first United States Navy resident and graduate. During residency, Dr. Staples achieved a 99th-percentile score on the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery In-Service Training Examination, the highest overall score recorded by the program at that time. He was also selected for an Osteo Science Foundation Clinical Observership at the Capital Center for Cosmetic and Oral Surgery, where he gained additional exposure to advanced surgical techniques. Facial Cosmetic And Reconstructive SurgeryFollowing residency, Dr. Staples completed a one-year fellowship in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at the Griffin Center for Cosmetic Surgery. His advanced surgical training included facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, lip lifts, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, ear surgery, chin correction and augmentation, facial and neck liposuction, scar revision, and CO2 laser skin resurfacing. Dr. Staples also received advanced training in nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, including injectable neurotoxins, dermal fillers, and platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin treatments. Military And Academic ServiceDr. Staples has served on active duty in the United States Navy since 2016. He currently serves as an attending oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where he provides patient care and helps train future surgeons. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. In addition to his clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Staples was selected to serve as assistant chief dental informatics officer.
