So, they did an x-ray, and it turns out that I had three wisdom teeth that I didn't know about. Dr. Brock was the oral surgeon that took out my wisdom teeth, and he was so sweet. When I came in, the staff were great. They were so friendly, and I was kind of nervous, and they made me really comfortable. My procedure went really well. I felt like I closed my eyes, and I opened them, and I was done. My recovery was really fast. It did take a couple days for the swelling to go down, but other than that, it was normal. If I could recommend an oral surgeon, it would definitely be the ones here at Mountain State Oral Surgeons.

Common concerns about wisdom teeth removal


Why do I need to have my wisdom teeth extracted?


Not everyone will need to have their wisdom teeth removed, but the best way to know for sure is to visit an oral surgeon. Molars take up a lot of space in the mouth cavity, and they often do not have enough room to grow into their proper position. When the mouth lacks space to accommodate wisdom teeth, they tend to get stuck below the gums (impacted). Impacted wisdom teeth can cause infection, root damage, dental crowding, cysts, and tumors. Early wisdom teeth removal can prevent these problems.

In addition to eliminating any discomfort you may be feeling, early wisdom teeth removal typically makes for an easier procedure and a quicker recovery because the teeth are not fully developed.

What are the signs of wisdom teeth development?


If you notice any of the following symptoms, contact one of our offices to schedule a consultation to find out if your wisdom teeth need to be extracted:
•  Pain or discomfort in the back of the mouth
•  Persistent bad breath
•  Swollen gums or other signs of infection
•  Crowding of your other teeth

How does the procedure work?


Treatment always begins with a consultation appointment, which allows your oral surgeon to evaluate your condition and design a personalized treatment plan. The process of wisdom teeth removal differs with every patient and depends on the number of teeth that need to be removed, their position, their level of impaction, and other factors. Your next visit will be your removal appointment.

Your doctor will administer your chosen form of anesthesia. Most wisdom teeth patients choose to undergo general anesthesia so they can rest comfortably during teeth removal. Once your anesthesia has taken effect, your oral surgeon will expose the wisdom teeth and carefully extract them. The surgeon will finish by closing the incisions. Then you will rest in our office until you are ready for your prearranged designated driver to drive you home.
