Meet Timothy S. Bartholomew, DDS, FACS Dr. Timothy Bartholomew is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with more than two decades of experience in oral surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, facial plastic surgery, and the treatment of complex maxillofacial conditions. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a distinction reflecting his advanced surgical training and commitment to high standards of patient care.Dr. Bartholomew's career has taken him across the United States and around the world. In addition to providing care in private practice and community health settings, he has devoted a significant portion of his career to treating patients in medically underserved communities and training surgeons in developing healthcare systems. Education And ResidencyDr. Bartholomew completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Following dental school, he completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery internship at Loyola University Hospitals in Maywood, Illinois. He then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond. During residency, Dr. Bartholomew broadened his surgical experience as a visiting fellow in plastic and maxillofacial surgery at Ulster Hospital in Northern Ireland. Advanced Fellowship TrainingAfter residency, Dr. Bartholomew pursued several years of advanced fellowship training. He completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery fellowship at the Oral Surgical Institute in Nashville, followed by a fellowship in maxillofacial tumor and reconstructive surgery through the University of Miami Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Bartholomew also completed a fellowship in craniofacial and plastic surgery at the Posnick Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Maryland. He later served as a visiting fellow in the Department of Craniofacial and Plastic Surgery at Providence Hospital, where he also completed basic and advanced microsurgical training. His extensive fellowship experience provides him with advanced expertise in craniofacial abnormalities, maxillofacial tumors, facial reconstruction, plastic surgery techniques, and complex oral and facial conditions. Board CertificationDr. Bartholomew is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has maintained his board-certified status since 2003. He was named a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2019. He also maintains certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support and holds a general anesthesia license through the Ohio State Dental Board. Professional ExperienceDr. Bartholomew has provided oral and maxillofacial surgical care in private practices, hospitals, public health departments, and community health centers throughout Ohio and internationally. His domestic experience includes serving patients through North Coast Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Erie County Health Department, Lorain County Health and Dentistry, Arlington Oral Surgery, and Farrar Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. Bartholomew has treated a broad range of oral and facial conditions, from routine surgical needs to complex craniofacial abnormalities, tumors, traumatic injuries, and reconstructive cases. International And Humanitarian ServiceHumanitarian service has been a defining part of Dr. Bartholomew's career. He has served as an oral, maxillofacial, and craniofacial surgeon at hospitals and medical centers throughout Africa, Central America, and Southeast Asia. His international service has included work in Togo, Honduras, Guinea, Gabon, Ethiopia, Zambia, Sierra Leone, Benin, Burundi, Chad, Cambodia, Mali, Cameroon, and Niger. In these settings, he has treated patients with complex surgical needs who often had limited access to specialty care. Dr. Bartholomew has also helped educate the next generation of surgeons. He served as assistant program director for the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons' general surgery residency program in Cameroon and as a visiting teaching surgeon in Gabon and Niger. To further support his work in international medicine, Dr. Bartholomew completed specialized training in tropical medicine and parasitology at West Virginia University.
